SYDNEY, April 25 AAP -

Young veterans were highly visible throughout the Anazac Day March in Sydn

The skies brightened and the rain stopped just long enough for Sydney to honour its
war veterans in their annual Anzac Day march.

Cheered on by tens of thousands of flag-waving spectators, up to 18,000 NSW veterans
and serving forces made their way from the Cenotaph in Martin Place along George Street
to Hyde Park.

Despite a rainy start to the day, spectators turned out in their thousands to pay their
respects to past and present members of Australia's defence forces.

Trooper Mark Donaldson, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for services in Afghanistan,
said it was vital young people take part in Anzac Day.

"You have to keep it alive because if you don't pass it down and make sure they understand
what it's about then it's going to be forgotten about," Trooper Donaldson told reporters
in Sydney following the march.

NSW RSL president Don Rowe said the high number of spectators was a sign of NSW's commitment
to Anzac Day.

"They've turned up in their thousands upon thousands this morning, so even rain does
not deter people from attending the Anzac Day march in Sydney."
