Vic; Royal commission bias claims to go to court

One of the parties to Melbourne's ambulance Royal Commission will launch a Supreme
Court action to derail the inquiry, alleging it is biased.

Counsel for former Metropolitan Ambulance Service chief executive JACK FIRMAN has told
the inquiry he is applying for a Supreme Court hearing.

He says the commission has become an outlet for biased information.

The royal commission has heard complaints that counsel assisting the commission is
dealing unfairly with some witnesses.

Commissioner LEX LASRY, QC, last week described the complaints of unfairness and suggestions
of bias as unhelpful, provocative, sensational and offensive.

Mr FIRMAN'S legal team has since boycotted the Royal Commission.

The inquiry is investigating the privatisation of the communications system for Melbourne's
ambulances in 1993-94.
